The first half of 2021’s backlog is here! See the first post for the latter half of 2020’s stuff if you haven’t, as this is a 4-part post!
2021 was not the best year for creating things, especially not in the music department. But I did pick up a lot from the things I did do, especially for both traditional and digital drawing, so there’s progress nonetheless.
Seiryuu the Burninator
7 Jan 2021. Ink, alcohol marker, some acrylic paint.
A crossover of Trogdor and Seiryuu done on a friend’s behalf. Vs are consummate enough for me to call this a great success, and a way to perhaps flex on younger viewers.
Untitled (background)
20 Jan 2021. Krita.
Not a bad attempt at a background. I had a crossover plot in mind whilst sketching this, one that I’ll put up what I have here shortly. Some viewers say it reminded them of Fallout – not too far off the mark, honestly.
Untitled (Two Bags)
21 Jan 2021. Graphite and coloured pencils.
Two Kabans sketched using my travelling kit of traditional materials, which is nowhere near as nice as my studio stuff.
Untitled (“20210123_okastorm.kra”)
23 Jan 2021. Krita.
A quick sketch based off a scene in one of the Kemofure stage plays. I never watched them myself, but someone screenshot this scene and I used that as a basis.
Radical Parking Lot (MIDI transcription/cover exercise) (MIDI file here)
7 Feb 2021. OpenMPT (initial note-taking), Cakewalk (MIDI stuff).
A short transcription exercise of a short song from an obscure Sega fighter. I know some of the notes are off, but I wasn’t aiming to be 100% accurate, either.
For those listening to the MIDI, I recommend using a Sound Canvas in SC-55 mode. For the streamed audio, 5 versions are put together:
-
- OPL3 (emulated, Fat Man patch set)
- AWE32/Live! w/ 8MB E-MU soundfont (emulated)
- SC-VA in SC-55 mode (not accurate to an actual SC-55, but close enough)
- Yamaha XG via S-YXG50
- Everything put together
Cooking Floppa
15 Feb 2021. Krita, Inkscape (text).
My mind was off with absurd ideas yet again, but considering I was in a bit of a creative block before this, I’m very satisfied with how it turned out, even if the background was basically a trace-over. I’m surprised I had the appropriate logo font already. As for floppa name, I just assumed via internet memes that it worked for any caracal, so cue it on Kemofure’s Caracal.
FRIEND: Shadow of Japari outline/setting document (PDF file here)
24 Feb 2021. Mostly a ODT document really.
I’ll quote myself from the time.
“A while back I had a KF-Stalker idea in mind titled FRIEND: Shadow of Japari, but aside from a few comics and sketches, I never really followed through with posting updates to it. Instead, I found myself reframing it as a writing project last year. However, constant reiteration led to burnout and waning interest, and I eventually felt compelled to just share something on this project, so I could at least proceed onward. Thus, I have done so here, namely a document with a Wikipedia-style plot synopsis (something which I felt was a useful tactic before working on the details), a brief bit on setting, and part of the first chapter written. Previously I had done a pilot comic and a strip….
I don’t know at this time whether I’ll still complete this. The idea is still occasionally entertaining, but I don’t know if I have the interest to flesh it out fully. (The temptation to extend this with plot synopses for related works is there, though.)”
A year later, I don’t think I’ll actually continue this at all, seeing as I’ve started to look more into my own things. However, perhaps others could use this premise, though if you do, I’d appreciate some credit. 🙂
Hell Bent for Silver
10 Mar 2021. Krita.
I’ve liked the Killing Machine / Hell Bent for Leather album cover for whatever reason, so cue a Kemofure parody of it. Whilst I really like the paint texture, I admit I was hasty with the spiral pattern on the lenses. In any case, if PPP was a hard rock band rather than an idol troupe, I’d be more favourable.
Untitled (Dhole Enfield)
17 Mar 2021. Krita.
A quick morning doodle to warm up. Kira refers to Kemofure 3’s premium gacha currency.
Untitled (Cellval smoking)
23 Mar 2021. Fountain pen, coloured and graphite pencil.
Part of a complete brunch.
JapariWrestle 2021 (YT link)
1 Apr 2021. Shotcut, Cakewalk, WWE 2k19 with a lot of mods, 86box (Win95).
New computer meant new hardware meant new games, so I went all-out this time.
I had to reupload the video months later, however, for two reasons. First, the YT-oriented transcode I uploaded first was of low quality, so I uploaded my original final render later to improve things. Second, YT put a copyright claim on the credits song, and though I don’t plan at all to monetise this, I also don’t want to deal with licence stuff. Thus YT audio library music overwrites the credits sequence somewhat.
Untitled (Mike Blackbuck)
13 Apr 2021. Ink, fineliner pen, alcohol marker.
Good in idea, not so great in execution. But I learnt to not use my Microns with alcoholic marker from here on, and realised that my ink could smudge with colourless blender. Gah!
I didn’t do too many drawings in May; most of them were gesture sketches and other things that I am a tad too lazy to scan right now. >_<
Donk Dholegan
6 Jun 2021. Drawpile.
Drawn as part of a Drawpile event that didn’t do too well. The pointing hand is still great today, I think.
Pippi, Discord Stream Edition
7 Jun 2021 (not the 9th as stated). Krita
A drawing of @EaterOfPi’s OC Pippi done on a Discord stream. Not my finest work by any means, but the stream had a good number of viewers.
Café Car
18 Jun 2021. Fountain pen, coloured pencil, graphite pencil.
A drawing with two friends’ OCs dining in a café car, and a fun exercise in drawing a scene. It also helped I was travelling by train a fair bit around that time, mostly to visit friends.
Dholemania, FRIEND
30 Jun 2021. Fountain and brush pens, coloured and graphite pencil, some paint marker.
My WWE game exploits must be invading my sketchbook. XD
Anyways, that was H1 2021. On to the next half!
